How much does a fence cost in Southwest Florida in 2026?

Real per-foot pricing for vinyl, wood, chain link, aluminum, metal, and hurricane-rated composite fences in SWFL. What drives the number up or down.

Finished vinyl privacy fence installed in Southwest Florida

Fence pricing is the question we hear most. Here's the straight answer for Southwest Florida in 2026, pulled from the real quotes we hand out every week from Bradenton down to Naples.

The short answer

Installed cost varies by material, height, gates, access, and permit or HOA requirements. Here's the current ballpark by material:

Material Installed per foot Why
Chain link $15 to $25 Most affordable. Good for back yards, commercial, and pet containment.
Wood (pressure-treated pine) $30 to $45 Classic look. Needs staining every year or two in Florida humidity.
Vinyl / PVC $35 to $55 Zero maintenance. Most popular privacy choice.
Aluminum $40 to $60 Rust-free, pool-code compliant, decorative.
Metal (steel) $45 to $65 Commercial-grade strength with residential looks.
Composite (hurricane-rated) $60 to $90 Premium option built for named-storm winds.

These are rough midpoints. Your real quote will fall inside these ranges but can move 15 percent either way depending on the specifics below.

What moves the price up

Five things change the total more than anything else:

  1. Height. A 6 foot fence costs 15 to 20 percent more than a 4 foot fence. An 8 foot fence runs another 15 to 20 percent above that. Height rules vary by city, so check our fence permit rules by city before assuming you can go taller.

  2. Gates. A standard single-swing gate adds a few hundred dollars to the project. Double-swing drive gates run noticeably more, especially if you add automation. We price gates line-by-line on every estimate.

  3. Terrain. Flat, clear yards are the easy case. Sloped or obstructed yards (pool deck access, tree roots, A/C units, canal seawalls) add 10 to 25 percent to labor.

  4. Removal of old fence. If we're tearing out an existing fence, plan on $4 to $8 per linear foot added. Hurricane-damaged fences often qualify for insurance reimbursement, so ask.

  5. Permits. Permit rules vary by jurisdiction. Sarasota County typically does not require a permit for a standard residential fence, while Charlotte, Lee, Cape Coral, and Collier timelines vary. When a permit is required, we pull it under our license and show the cost as a line item on your quote.

A real example

For a 150 foot vinyl privacy fence at 6 foot height on flat terrain with one gate and permit:

  • Material + labor: ~$6,300
  • Gate (single swing): ~$500
  • Permit: ~$300
  • Total installed: around $7,100

That's within the $5,500 to $7,500 range we'd quote. Use our fence cost calculator to try your own numbers.

Is wood or vinyl a better deal long-term?

Wood wins on upfront cost. Vinyl wins on 10-year cost.

A 6 foot wood privacy fence in SWFL typically needs staining every year or two to avoid warping and mildew. Over 10 years that's multiple re-stains plus replacement of any warped pickets. Add it up and vinyl usually saves money long-term.

If you're planning to sell within 3 years, wood is fine. If you're staying put, vinyl pays off.

Financing

We partner with Wells Fargo Outdoor Solutions for approved 0 percent APR financing on qualifying projects, subject to approval. Standard non-financed projects are 50 percent down and the balance at substantial completion. If you are approved to finance the full project cost, that standard down payment is not required.

What's NOT included in the per-foot number

A few things people sometimes miss when comparing quotes:

  • HOA approval paperwork. We draft a submission-ready HOA application package at no extra charge for you to submit to your board.
  • Cleanup. We leave the jobsite broom-clean. No debris stays behind.
  • Measurement visit. Free on-site measurement as part of every estimate, Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm. Same-day response.
